How Much Research is Too Much?

Loving data, I usually error on the side of too much research.  It is always useful in the way that I can follow a very technical vendor meeting, for instance, but sometimes it’s clear that time could have been better spent elsewhere.  Especially if we decide not to buy the item.

If this is happening to you, a good guideline is to review the “brochure” version of your subject.  A title, a few pictures, highlighted capabilities, some reviews if available, US or global offices and end there.

This way you have a good overview without having to read a 10-page case study of information you may find out later, applies to a different model or capability, or use.
